SWIMMING POOL

At the end of 2008, the municipal council decided not to renovate the existing indoor and outdoor pool, as the existing technology was outdated and the structural substance was dilapidated. Based on profitability calculations, the council decided to demolish the existing structure and build a new pool.

In the fall of 2011, the Krieger office from Velbert was commissioned to plan a new building. After numerous consultations in the specially set up swimming pool committee on the plans submitted by the architect, the variant of a sports and school pool with 5 lanes came into effect by decision of the municipal council. In addition to school and club use, this variant also offers the public a pool for everyone.

The politically responsible committees had consciously decided in favor of a “Sports-Fitness-Health” concept. Visitors are offered a pool that is designed for swimming as a sport and health activity and also allows our schools to use and practice swimming lessons.

The water areas of the pool have a total size of 461 m². These are divided into a swimming pool (315.93 m²), a teaching pool (115 m²) and a paddling pool (30 m²). The swimming pool consists of 5 lanes, each with a length of 25m. The cubature of the entire structure with the corresponding ancillary and technical rooms is 14,315.70 m³. This results in a gross floor area of 3,042.80 m². When the weather is nice, the folding doors between the swimming pool hall and the outdoor terrace can be opened. Together with the spacious sunbathing lawn and the kiosk in the outdoor area, an "open-air pool feeling" is conveyed.

The state of Rh.-Palatinate contributed EUR 2.5 million and the district of Trier-Saarburg contributed around EUR 800,000 to the financing of the pool. The lion's share of the financing and the annual operating costs are to be borne by the municipality of Konz.

The SAAR-MOSEL-BAD was opened on September 15, 2015 as planned and today also operates its own website.
