"Wave and Fold" by Johannes Michler

"Wave and Crease"

by Thomas Michler

The relationship between the forms of waves and folds and the diverse formal echoes and associative references that result from this are the starting point of my work. The concrete form develops in careful consideration of the pictorial possibilities. The relationship between given and created form, shape and texture of the worked surfaces, proportion and setting of the blocks, directing the gaze and orientation should resonate in a composition that has the power to define a place.

Embedded in a rather small-scale scenic situation, which nevertheless has long lines of sight
allows, the two stones, despite the simplicity of the ensemble and the obviousness of the forms, unfold a game with spatial and pictorial diversity. The accents of perception shift from afar through the approach, in passing or through, in physical contact, in short stays or in daily encounters.
