ZDF television station in Mainz and Freudenberg Castle
Excursion of the action group Lifelong Learning and Actively Passing on Knowledge
On March 6, 2025, 47 interested people took an educational trip to the ZDF broadcasting center in Mainz. The participants were given a behind-the-scenes look at one of Europe's largest broadcasters. The tour offered a concise insight into the exciting world of media for young and old. The participants were particularly impressed by the studios for programs with a "recognition factor" and the technology used in the production department. They experienced how television is created and how ZDF fulfills its public broadcasting mandate. Also impressive was the information on the design of the daily newscast, in which the priority of the program content is determined by 28 editors.
Another highlight of the program was a visit to Freudenberg Castle. Here, in the "Experiential Field of Senses and Thought," participants had the opportunity to explore natural phenomena such as Goethe's theory of colors, the flowing creation of forms in water and air, the sound figures of Friedrich Chladni, resonance and echo, light and darkness, and the formation of vortex streets and eddies. Many participants enthusiastically participated in a sound tour. Others were shown how logging horses were used in the field. In bright sunshine, they enjoyed coffee and cake on the castle terrace. On the way home, participants shared their experiences in lively conversation.
