Renovation of the Konz-Könen town center begins
Konz, April 10, 2025
New roadway, new water pipes, and barrier-free bus stops: Construction work to renovate the Konz-Könen thoroughfare will begin after the Easter holidays. For the first construction phase, Saarburger Straße will be completely closed from the Pferdemarkt intersection to the town exit. The complete closure of the roadway will allow for faster completion, and the work is expected to be completed by the end of October. The second construction phase, up to Charnystraße, and the third, up to Valentinstraße, will follow and are scheduled for completion in summer 2026.

Photo: The red marked section shows the first construction phase, in which the road surface will be renovated, the bus stops will be made barrier-free, and the water pipes will be replaced.
The currently affected area is only the section from the town center toward Tawern. The commercial area and its shops remain accessible from the Konz direction as usual. Long-distance traffic can use the bypass (B51) as usual. For bus line 290, there will be replacement stops on Wolfsfeld Street and on Brunnenstraße at the corner of Hohlweg.
For residents, some properties remain accessible by car, but always within walking distance. The entrance/exit from Pferdemarkt Street also remains accessible to residents. Emergency services will also have access at all times. Garbage cans can be placed on the street during the collection schedule, as usual.
The renovation of the Konz-Könen thoroughfare, including barrier-free bus stops, will cost a total of approximately €1.3 million. In addition, the Konz Municipal Utility Company (Verbandsgemeindewerke Konz AöR) is investing almost €980,000 in sewer construction and water supply.
