“Borderless controls? What do permanent border controls mean for our region?”
No other topic has dominated the domestic political debate in recent weeks and months as much as migration, and consequently it was also the dominant topic in the election campaign that has just ended. The election is over and it is now up to the representatives of the parties represented in the Bundestag to form a government. Even though the public debate since Donald Trump's election victory in the USA has been more focused on foreign policy challenges, it is nevertheless clear that the topic of migration will play a central role in the upcoming coalition negotiations.
The details of possible measures have not yet been finalized. However, we can expect an extension of border controls or new initiatives - a policy area that is particularly important for our region. How will stricter border controls affect commuters to Luxembourg? What do they mean for traders or craft businesses that operate on both sides of the border, and thus for the income situation and development of the residents of our region? And how will a changed "border regime" affect our daily lives?
The Konz Political Salon wants to explore all of these questions at its next event on March 16, 2025 under the theme: "Borderless controls? What do permanent border controls mean for our region?" The event will take place, as has now become almost usual, in the Konzer-Doktor-Bürgersaal on Wiltingerstrasse in Konz and will begin at 11 a.m. Afterwards there will again be the opportunity to end the discussions in an informal setting with a glass of wine, juice or sparkling water.
