DB informs about noise abatement in Konz, Kanzem and Wiltingen
The city of Konz and the communities of Kanzem and Wiltingen along the Saar line are to be quieter. As part of the "Noise remediation on existing federal railway lines" program, Deutsche Bahn (DB) plans to implement noise remediation measures in Konz, Kanzem and Wiltingen along the Konz-Karthaus - Saarbrücken railway line in order to protect residents from rail noise in the future with new soundproofing walls and passive measures.
DB InfraGO AG invites all residents and interested parties from these municipalities to two information events on Tuesday, March 18, 2025. The first information event for the residents of Kanzem and Wiltingen will take place at 6 p.m. in the Wiltingen Community Center, Brückenstraße 315, 54459 Wiltingen and the second at 8 p.m. in the Könen Sports Hall, Könener Str. 12B, 54329 Konz.
The railway engineers will present the results of the acoustic report and explain the further process. Questions can then be put directly to the project management. On behalf of the municipalities, the mayor of Konz, Joachim Weber, and the full-time councillor Guido Wacht, and the local mayor of Wiltingen, Reinhold Orth, will attend the respective events. .
About noise abatement
The "Noise remediation on existing federal railway lines" program has been funded by the federal government since 1999. This created the financial opportunity to implement noise protection measures along existing railway lines. Around 2 billion euros have since been invested in noise remediation of over 2,255 kilometers of railway line and around 68,800 residential units. In 2023 alone, around 47 kilometers of noise protection walls were completed and over 135 million euros were spent. By 2030, the noise remediation is expected to relieve more than half of all residents along existing railway lines from the noise of passing trains.
Noise remediation is a voluntary service provided by the federal government. Soundproof walls and soundproof windows and fans in buildings are subsidized. In individual cases, insulation of external facades and roofs is also partially financed. Since the noise remediation measures mean an increase in the value of the property, the owners bear a quarter of the costs.
