Lecture: "75 Years of NATO"

On Tuesday, November 12, 2024, over 40 educational trip enthusiasts from the "Partnership for Democracy in the Konz Municipality" set off on a special educational trip in cooperation with the "Lifelong Learning Action Group - actively passing on knowledge". Under the title "75 Years of NATO", the NATO Air Force Headquarters (NATO HQ AIRCOM) and the US Airbase in Ramstein were visited.

Once they arrived at the military base, the participants first had the rare opportunity to view a C-130 transport aircraft on the huge airfield.

After a typical American lunch in the officers' club, the most senior German officer at headquarters, Colonel Trautermann, informed the participants about NATO in an exciting lecture. The lecture covered, among other things, the tasks and structures of the NATO air force and the current changed framework conditions of NATO on its eastern flank.

After a further introduction to the special features of the Ramstein site, a very informative and entertaining "Windshield Tour" took place through the largest US military base outside the United States. The visit to the memorial stone for the victims of the 1988 air disaster was a fitting conclusion.

However, the visit to the military base is not the end of the adventure. January 22, 2025 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A “return visit” is planned in Konz. During this visit, representatives of NATO headquarters will hold a detailed Lecture entitled “NATO at a turning point – Inside views of the turning point from the perspective of NATO Air Force Headquarters in Ramstein” , which will address, among other things, the new challenges in light of the Russian war of aggression, which violates international law, as well as the organizational and functional integration into NATO's command structures.
