Temporary extension for daycare center in Konz-Oberemmel inaugurated
From now on, 44 additional children can be cared for at the St. Karl Lwanga daycare center in Konz-Oberemmel. The new, temporary extension was inaugurated on Wednesday. With an area of over 400 square meters, the building, which consists of wooden modules, not only offers space for the children to develop creatively and holistically. It also ensures a high-quality and sustainable extension of the existing facility.
In addition to the two group rooms with their two adjoining rooms and a play corridor, the building includes an exercise room where the children can jump, dance and hop. A bistro area ensures a pleasant atmosphere during mealtimes and a serving kitchen enables efficient catering. There is also a staff room and modern sanitary facilities, so that the new rooms are well equipped all round.

The wooden modules for this building were produced by the company "Holzbau Henz" from Trierweiler and then erected and assembled in close cooperation with other regional companies. A special feature is the location independence, because after a provisionally planned period of use of five years on the current property, the modules can be moved to another location and adapted there - also in terms of the interior design.
"This temporary extension is more than just an investment in the current location. The 25 modules can be used flexibly, are sustainable thanks to the wooden construction and the result is visually very appealing - inside and out," said Mayor Joachim Weber. In his speech at the inauguration ceremony, he looked back on the implementation process from planning to the inauguration of the daycare extension. "As soon as we received the updated figures on the specific care needs, the administration stepped on the gas pedal in the planning. The tender for the modules, production, delivery, assembly and interior work were then carried out in less than a year."
Martin Roß, general manager at the Catholic KiTa gGmbH Trier, also spoke in his speech about how quickly the implementation was carried out: "The daycare center in Oberemmel has continuously developed both pedagogically and structurally in recent years in order to meet the growing needs of families in Oberemmel. During the impressive construction period of just six months, the team around site manager Lisa Bratanovic successfully adapted the pedagogical concept to the new building. This project impressively illustrates what is possible when everyone pulls together."
The cost of the temporary extension is around 1.7 million euros - around 500,000 euros less than originally estimated. The Trier-Saarburg district is supporting the project with 200,000 euros.
