“New Spaces” – Intercultural Weeks Konz

In the coming weeks, more than 5,000 events will take place in almost 700 locations as part of the Intercultural Weeks. Konz will also host a series of events as part of this Germany-wide initiative, which is organized by the Intercultural Network (IN) Konz and coordinated by the Coordination and Specialist Office of the Partnership for Democracy.

Organizers and participants of all events have one thing in common: they are committed to human rights, social cohesion and democracy and stand against all forms of misanthropy. They create spaces for encounters and exchanges on an equal footing.
"Human dignity is inviolable." This is the first article of our Basic Law, which came into force 75 years ago. This sentence forms the basis and sets the tone and direction for all subsequent articles of our constitution and offers the best conditions for the protection and development of our society. Especially in challenging times such as those we are currently experiencing, this should guide our thoughts and actions.
Under the motto "New Spaces", we want to create opportunities for people to meet again this year as part of the Intercultural Weeks. In this way, we want to enable encounters and exchanges to take place and trust to grow, thus strengthening cohesion in a diverse society.

The programme includes tried and tested and new event formats for very different age and target groups. With the opening event (Re)use meeting spaces , dem Café Helpful, different Reading and pre-reading opportunities for children , the cooking and meeting offer “Cooking knows no boundaries” , one Games Olympics , the Event for the Open Mosque Day , the digital offering “Opening new spaces for integration – interpreters report” and the "Political Salon Konz" There are many opportunities and spaces for meetings, information and discussion.

- Opening event of the IKW 2024 -

The market square is a meeting place - this is where people of all ages, genders and cultures meet. On the occasion of the IKW, we want to "fill" this space with activities for young and old, but also offer art, information and hands-on activities.
If you enjoy meeting new people and having good conversations, then we warmly invite you to experience how colorful and diverse Konz is.

Café Helpful meets Intercultural Week

Café Hilfreich is a meeting place for people with migration experience and volunteers from Konz. It takes place every Wednesday in the rooms of the Protestant parish and is organized and run by the specialists from the migration advice service of the Diakonisches Werk. The exchange of people from different backgrounds characterizes the café - it reflects the variety and diversity of Konz. During the café, the volunteers offer the opportunity to deepen German language skills together or to answer questions about everyday life. The specialists from the migration advice service are on hand in the café to advise on all concerns and questions. We cordially invite you to be part of our café on September 18th and make it even more colorful with your presence. You can chat to other participants over a cup of coffee or tea, exchange ideas and of course get to know Café Hilfreich. We look forward to seeing you!

Kitchen for everyone – cooking knows no boundaries
Cooking and meeting opportunities for everyone

Under the motto “Slice, cook, eat and enjoy together” it is about spending a nice evening cooking together. The cooking is vegan and almost exclusively with rescued food that might otherwise have ended up in the trash can. Everyone is invited to participate, regardless of age, gender or origin.

On the European Day of Languages, volunteer interpreters and people with their own integration stories show and report why interpreting in social spaces is worthwhile for all of us. The event will take place online. Prior registration at a.hornick@arbeit-und-leben.de is required.

Drive-in cinema with the “Little Ghost”
Stories with pictures told for children from 4 to 6 years

A beautiful story about the adventures of the little ghost awaits you. Come with your Bobby Cars and listen to the picture book cinema. All children drive a little round the library and then hear or see a beautiful picture book cinema. Of course, everything takes place in the car, as befits a real drive-in cinema. A little honking is definitely welcome.

Open Mosque Day

Konz has been home to Muslim citizens for many years, who live their faith and culture here. The prayer house of the Turkish-Islamic community on Dammstrasse will open its doors to guests on the occasion of the nationwide Open Mosque Day on October 3rd. The community will present itself with mosque tours, delicious Turkish dishes and an information stand.

Political Salon Konz – “Space for conversation and discussion”

The "Konz Political Salon" is an initiative that was launched more than six years ago by politically interested citizens of Konz. The focus of the Political Salon is on discussion between the participants. All interested parties from the Konz municipality area are cordially invited to contribute their view of things, to represent a point of view, even if they are still unsure, but also to ask questions without hesitation that perhaps no one has an answer to. In this sense, the Political Salon has already discussed a number of controversial and difficult topics.
In terms of content, this time the initiative is dealing with the topic “Loneliness – Foreignness – Meeting Spaces”, in keeping with the motto of the Intercultural Weeks.
