Prime Minister Schweitzer visits the VG Konz
Prime Minister Alexander Schweitzer is stopping in the Konz district as part of his summer trip. On Wednesday afternoon, accompanied by district mayor Joachim Weber, district administrator Stefan Metzdorf and the president of the SGD Nord Wolfgang Treis, he got an idea of several water management projects.
Together with local mayor Andreas Beiling, the representatives of the various authorities first spoke about flood protection in Oberbillig. Members of the volunteer fire brigade and the VG administration demonstrated how the protective wall is built, how high the water was during flood events in the past and that there are dykes not only in northern Germany, but also on the Moselle.
Afterwards, the group went to Konz-Oberemmel. Accompanied by the local mayor, Hermann-Josef Benzkirch, the group set off for a short walk. Employees of the Trier-Saarburg district and the collective municipality showed Prime Minister Schweitzer, for example, where the heavy rain on the Whitsun weekend caused damage. The delegation also looked at the current project at the Fallweiher. In this area, the Langwiesbach is being renaturalized and the pond is being redesigned and made accessible.
