Konz: New speed displays promote more responsibility in road traffic
Konz, October 23, 2024
Two new speed display boards are now contributing to increased road safety in Konz. They were purchased with funding from Westenergie. The displays are intended to remind road users of the current traffic speed and to urge caution. They were installed at two locations where compliance with the prescribed speed is particularly important.
The first one is in the area of the Lorenz Kellner daycare center. "Especially at times when children are being dropped off at or picked up from daycare, it quickly becomes confusing here. Anyone who drives here at high speeds is endangering the children," explains Guido Wacht, the first deputy mayor of the Konz district council. The second display is initially in "Am Markt," where there are many pedestrians and vehicles parking and reversing out of parking spaces can also make things confusing. Because of the color of the measurement displayed, road users can see from a distance whether the speed limit is being observed and adjust their speed if necessary.

No one receives a ticket because the data is recorded on a display board. The data is stored anonymously and provides valuable information for further improving road safety at the respective measuring point.
Thanks to an environmentally friendly solar module, the speed display does not require its own power connection and can be used at different locations as required. Christian Nathem, municipal manager at Westenergie, emphasized: "I am pleased that we are implementing these measures to improve road safety together with the city of Konz. In doing so, we are making a contribution to improving the quality and safety of the location.
