The KIPKI funding program of the state government of Rhineland-Palatinate supports the Konz municipality in climate protection. The funding application for more energy-efficient lighting was approved.
"The town of Konz and all local communities in the collective municipality will benefit from this. Wherever the street lighting has not yet been converted to LED technology, this will now happen," says the mayor of the municipality, Joachim Weber. Overall, the implementation of the measure is expected to cost almost one million euros. "I am pleased that the project has been included in the "Municipal Investment Program for Climate Protection and Innovation" (KIPKI) and is supported by the state. The collective municipality of Konz will now make a further contribution to a more climate-friendly future."

Prime Minister Malu Dreyer and Climate Protection Minister Katrin Eder emphasise: “Municipalities play a key role in climate protection. This is where planning, approval and implementation take place. This is where discussions with citizens take place, which increases the attractiveness of a place. The municipalities themselves are the experts and know what can be implemented in their area and what has the greatest possible benefit for both citizens and the climate. This is why the state government has launched the Municipal Investment Programme for Climate Protection and Innovation, KIPKI for short, with a total of 250 million euros. Here, every municipality can
choose from a catalogue of measures what is suitable for them. Each resident receives around 44 euros, which is divided between the district and the collective municipalities. The collective municipality of Konz receives 946,736 euros in KIPKI funds."
"I am convinced that investments in the climate are investments in the future. Because those who protect the climate save both cash and climate-damaging CO2. With KIPKI, the Municipal Investment Program for Climate Protection and Innovation, we are easing the burden on the climate and the budgets of municipalities. This way, everyone can see that climate protection is worthwhile. We also provide technical support to municipalities and are happy to advise them on how CO2 can be saved or what can be done, for example, to prevent inner cities from heating up too much or to ensure that water can drain away properly. Rhineland-Palatinate is more affected by global warming than other regions in our country. That is why it is so important to be prepared. And that is why the Climate Protection Ministry is happy to support municipalities beyond KIPKI," said Climate Protection Minister Katrin Eder.
