New speed displays in Wasserliesch and Pellingen
By setting up two speed indicators together with Westenergie, the local communities of Wasserliesch and Pellingen are making an important contribution to the safety of all road users in the Konz municipality. The company is supporting the communities with the purchase.
“The boards immediately show the speed of every passing car,” says the mayor of the municipality of Konz, Joachim Weber. “The data is stored anonymously and provides the municipality with valuable information on how to further improve traffic safety at the respective measuring point.”
One of the measuring devices is used in Wasserliesch near the kindergarten. “In this way, we actively help to ensure that the children are safer around the kindergarten and also at school,” explains the mayor of Wasserliesch, Thomas Thelen.

The second speed display will be set up in Pellingen at the entrance to the town from the direction of Zerf. “The cars here are often traveling very quickly on the main road. The new system reminds drivers that they are entering a town and should adjust their speed,” says Wolfgang Willems, local mayor of Pellingen.

Thanks to an environmentally friendly solar module, the speed display does not require its own power connection and can be used in different locations as required. Christian Nathem, Westenergie municipal manager at the Trier location, explains: “I am pleased to be implementing measures to improve traffic safety together with the local communities of Wasserliesch and Pellingen as well as the Konz municipality. In this way, we are making a contribution to greater location quality and safety.”
Westenergie offers the KEK – Municipal Energy Concept funding program to municipalities that have a concession agreement with the energy company. It includes solutions and products that help communities prepare for the energy future. Measures in the areas of climate protection, energy efficiency and infrastructure are supported. This includes, for example, increasing the energy efficiency of municipal buildings and facilities or concepts for electromobility.
