Thanks to all firefighters and volunteers

Thanks to all firefighters and volunteers

What a Pentecost weekend; what a feat of strength for so many people in the Konz municipality! It all started on Friday afternoon. I have a etched memory of standing in the water and mud in Konz-Oberemmel in rubber boots. It all happened very quickly. The heavy rain caused the streams to swell, dams threatened to break, the level of the Saar rose and rose.

The volunteer fire brigades were alerted and the comrades went to extremes. In the municipalities of the VG, sandbags were packed non-stop, pumps were procured and put into operation. The operation lasted not just a few hours, but days - especially in Wiltingen. Dear volunteers from the fire brigades, you went to the limit to protect the population. Without you, without your professionalism, this would not have turned out so well. For this, I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart on behalf of all citizens!

I would also like to thank all other helpers:

the young people who packed sandbags,

the associations that coordinated aid,

those who provided the helpers with food

and those companies and private individuals who provided equipment or vehicles.

This extraordinary willingness to help cannot be taken for granted. And this enormous solidarity makes me proud to come from VG Konz and to live here!

A big thank you also goes to other organizations, for example the helpers from the German Red Cross, who set up and ran care centers, among other things. Our firefighters also received support from outside - from the Kusel district storm team! Thank you for the great help!

Unfortunately, it is impossible for me to list every single person who helped, although I would love to. Without batting an eyelid, so many people simply pitched in - including with the tidying up and cleaning. Everyone made their own contribution, as much as they were able! For this solidarity, I say: Thank you!

Your Mayor,

Joachim Weber
