Broadband expansion in Konz continues
Groundbreaking ceremony in Konz: Westnetz GmbH is bringing fiber optic networks to four areas of the city of Konz; namely to Roscheid, Krettnach, Niedermennig and Obermennig. The company has been expanding the fiber optic network in “Fiber To The Home” (FTTH) construction for a few days now. With the expansion, private households and businesses are future-proof: The new fiber optic network offers transmission rates of up to 1,000 megabits per second. The extensive infrastructure project is scheduled to be completed by the end of June 2025, with work being carried out in different sections and some areas being completed earlier.
Mayor Joachim Weber and representatives from Westnetz and Westenergie AG came together to mark the symbolic start of construction. “Sustainable broadband provision is of central importance today and is an essential investment in future-proof digital infrastructure. “I am all the more pleased that even more areas in Konz are now being connected to the fiber optic network,” said Mayor Joachim Weber. “Fast internet access is very important for most people and sustainably increases the region’s attractiveness as a residential and commercial location.”
Dominik Bosl, project manager at Westnetz, explained: “When expanding fast internet, we are not just limiting ourselves to the interests of larger cities and communities, but are also looking at coverage across the entire supply area. We are pleased to support the city of Konz in order to further expand the digital performance of business and private households.”

FTTH – What’s behind it?
FTTH represents the highest quality and most future-proof form of broadband provision, in which the fiber optic cables are laid into the building. However, this also involves the greatest effort in construction, as appropriate micro-pipe networks have to be laid along all streets and each building has a house connection specially designed for this purpose. Westnetz GmbH sets up these gigabit-capable connections as a service for Westconnect GmbH.
