Exhibition “Flight and Identity” in the Protestant community center
On Thursday, January 18th, the Evangelical Church Community of Konz-Karthaus, together with the photo artist Günter Frentzen, invites you to the vernissage of the photo project “Flucht & Identity” in the Evangelical Community Center, Karthäuser Straße 155. The event begins at 7 p.m. and is accompanied by musician Reza Solimani on guitar.
The project was launched in 2023 with funds from the Action and Initiative Fund Partnership for democracy in the VG Konz supported and funded by the Federal Ministry for Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth as part of the federal program “Living Democracy!” and contains 22 portraits that exemplarily show the diverse life stories of the refugees living in the Konz region.
The exhibition can also be viewed from January 18th. Can be visited until February 29th, 2024 during the following opening times:
Sundays from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (after church services)
Wednesdays from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m
About the project background:
In 2022, more than 108 million people were on the run worldwide and the number of people who fled to Germany increased by more than 25% compared to the previous year, with over 250,000 asylum seekers.
As part of a photo project, an exhibition was designed that portrays around 20 refugees and presents their very personal escape stories. The aim is to show people with their identities and thus enable a look “behind their faces”. The aim is to initiate an in-depth discussion of the topic of escape in general and individual escape stories in particular. The aim of the project is to look at the topic of flight beyond pure numbers and, through individualization, to promote a better understanding and empathy for the diverse people in VG Konz, here with a focus on the group of refugees and migrants.
