Pre-marketing for free fiber optic connections starts in the Roscheid, Niedermennig and Obermennig districts of Konz

Good news for all residents from the Roscheid, Niedermennig and Obermennig districts of Konz. Together with the administration, Westconnect is planning to expand a comprehensive fiber optic network for fast internet. In the future, a DSL connection will no longer be enough: in the next five years, the amount of data transported will increase sixfold. Private households and businesses therefore need a future-proof infrastructure.

To this end, Westconnect has identified areas for broadband expansion in collaboration with the Konz municipality and is now starting pre-marketing for the “Fiber To The Home” expansion (FTTH), i.e. fast Internet directly into the building, in the Konz districts of Roscheid, Niedermennig and Obermennig. So far, gigabit-capable fiber optic home connections are only available in some areas of the town.

Now the remaining approximately 2,000 private households and companies should also be able to benefit from a free fiber optic connection in the Roscheid, Niedermennig and Obermennig districts and be connected to the Internet with up to 1,000 megabits per second.

The pre-marketing runs from September 1, 2023 to November 30, 2023. During this time, interested parties can secure a free fiber optic connection. After that it would cost around 1,250 euros. If demand is high enough, the fiber optic network can be expanded next year.

“The future fiber optic connections will be so powerful that working and learning at home, video conferences, surfing and streaming will be possible at the same time - stable and reliable,” says Joachim Weber, mayor of the city of Konz. A very important point: the connections don’t come by themselves . Westconnect requires the consent of the respective owners. The reason: Fiber optic cables can only be laid on private property with a permit. This is the only way citizens and businesses can benefit from the new speed and stability of the fiber optic network. In order to receive a free fiber optic connection, you must purchase a telephony/internet product from E.ON Highspeed.

“Fast internet connections are definitely a real competitive advantage and also improve our quality of life. The benefits of broadband are many. For example, with your own fiber optic connection, the bandwidth does not have to be shared with others. This means that customers always have the full service available. The value of real estate can also be increased. Interested parties who take advantage of this opportunity until the end of the pre-marketing period will benefit from a free fiber optic connection.” After that, this connection would cost around 1,250 euros.
