Renovation of the Kaufland parking garage: Alternative parking spaces in Konz
After the New Year, the renovation of the Kaufland parking garage will begin, which the administration informed about in the Konzer Rundschau a few weeks ago. According to the owner, the Reh Foundation, from the first week of January 2024, access to the parking garage will only be possible via Granastraße/Lessingstraße and no longer via Goethestraße.
The renovation of the parking garage is expected to take two years. During this time there will only be 300 parking spaces available there instead of 400. According to the Reh Foundation, these parking spaces can be used free of charge for two hours in conjunction with a purchase at Kaufland and the shops there. The medical center's parking deck should always be accessible during the measure.
The city of Konz points out that there are other free public parking spaces available in the city center, many without time limits. This includes, for example, the parking area on Bahnhofstrasse between Brienon Bridge and the locomotive shed (62 spaces in total).
In addition, ten commuter parking spaces were created at the Granabrücke (Alte Straße) at the beginning of the year. There have been around 20 parking spaces next to the substation on Alte Römerstrasse for several months. There are more than 70 parking spaces on Güterstraße near the Konzer train station.
Plans are also underway to create around 30 additional parking spaces as an extension of Güterstrasse. The city also wants to develop additional parking options in the future, especially for commuters and passengers.
Here is an overview plan of the above-mentioned parking areas that are already available and have been created in recent years (marked in green) and the possible expansion of the parking space in Güterstrasse (marked in yellow):
