New painting for the monastery of St. Bruno in Konz-Karthaus
July 25, 2023
The monastery of St. Bruno in Konz-Karthaus gets new colors. A test coat has already been carried out on two corners. The building will then be completely repainted in the coming weeks. For many citizens, this will feel a little strange at first, because the monastery will be light yellow, the frames around the windows and the stones on the edges will be reddish brown.

From a historical point of view, however, this is nothing new: the preservationists have examined the old layers of paint on the monastery and found exactly these shades at the bottom. Due to the requirements of monument protection, the building must now be given its original, historically documented color again. This has been scientifically proven by a recognized expert.
The top layer of the façade has already been cleaned in preparation for painting, and then a test coat has been carried out on one corner. Next, a stonemason will restore minor damage. Then the painting takes place.
The monastery had apparently been painted in different colors since it was built. An old archive photo from before the last coat of paint in the 1980s shows, for example, that the building was yellow-brown at one point.
