“New Spaces” – Intercultural Weeks Conc 2023
For the 15th time in a row, the Intercultural Network (IN) Konz is taking part in the Intercultural Weeks - a Germany-wide initiative that will set an example for a diverse society at more than 600 locations with around 5,000 events in the coming weeks.
The organizers and participants of all events have one thing in common: they are committed to human rights, social cohesion and democracy and oppose any form of group-related misanthropy. They create spaces for encounters and exchange at eye level.
With persistence and continuity, the actors in the intercultural network have been contributing positive and encouraging accents for peaceful and respectful coexistence in diversity in the Konz community since 2008.
Under the motto “New Spaces”, we want to create events again this year as part of the Intercultural Weeks where encounters can take place and trust can grow in order to ensure cohesion in a diverse society.
The program includes tried and tested and new event formats for very different age and target groups. With the Exhibition “Cultural Diversity” , dem Intercultural breakfast , one Reading lesson for children , dem Cooking and meeting options “Cooking has no limits” , dem International Parent Café , the Open Mosque Day event , the offer “Experience history up close” , dem Café Helpful and the Political Salon Konz – “Turn to the right in Germany?” There are a variety of occasions and spaces for meetings, information and discussion.

Exhibition: “Cultural Diversity” with photos by Günter Frentzen
People from over 100 different nations live in Konz. Integration has often been successful, but it often fails for a variety of reasons. The exhibition shows large-format photos of people who live and work in Konz. The exhibition offers an opportunity to perceive the diversity of nationalities as a strength of the social conditions in Konz.

Kitchen for everyone – cooking knows no boundaries
Under the motto “Slice, cook, eat and enjoy together” it is about spending a nice evening cooking together. The cooking is vegan and almost exclusively with rescued food that might otherwise have ended up in the trash can. Everyone is invited to participate, regardless of age, gender or origin.

Open Mosque Day in the Haci Bayram Mosque
For many years Konz has also been home to Muslim fellow citizens who live their faith and culture in Konz.
The prayer house of the Turkish-Islamic Community on Dammstraße opens on October 3rd. Open Mosque Day was held nationwide for guests.
The community presents itself with mosque tours, delicious Turkish dishes and an information stand.

Experience history “up close” in Konz
The advice center for migration and integration in Konz invites you to visit the “Roscheider Hof” open-air museum in Konz. We would like to give people who have their new home here in the region insights into their former life in Germany.
The offer is primarily aimed at anyone interested with or without a migration background who has certain language skills in German. The tour will take place in German and English. Participation in the event is free, but limited to a number of participants. Café Helpful meets Intercultural Week
The Café Hilfreich is a meeting room for people with migration experience and volunteers from Konz. It takes place every Wednesday in the rooms of the Protestant parish and is organized and carried out by the migration advice specialists of the Diakonisches Werk. The exchange of people from different backgrounds characterizes the café - it reflects the variety and diversity of Konz. During the café, the volunteers offer the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of German together or answer questions about everyday life. The migration advice specialists in the café are available to help with any concerns or questions.
We warmly invite you to be part of our café on October 4th and make it even more colorful with your presence. You can talk to other participants over a cup of coffee or tea, exchange ideas and get to know each other and of course get to know Café Hilfreich. We're happy you came!

Political Salon: “Turn to the right in Germany?”
The “Political Salon Konz” is an initiative that was launched more than five years ago by politically interested citizens of Konz. The motto of the Political Salon Konz is: Democracy needs political conversation. In the Political Salon Konz, the focus is on the discussion between the participants. All interested parties from the area of the Konz municipality are cordially invited to contribute their point of view, to represent a point of view, even if they are still unsure, but also to ask questions without fear that perhaps no one has an answer to. In this sense, the Political Salon has already discussed a number of explosive and difficult topics.
The special guest of the event is apl. Prof. Dr. habil. Markus Linden, political scientist at the University of Trier.
