Konz: Additional work necessary near the Granastrasse/Schillerstrasse junction
The construction work at the Granastrasse/Schillerstrasse junction is currently largely on schedule. The civil engineering work turned out to be more complex than originally expected. Nevertheless, the sidewalks, for example, have already been largely completed and can be opened shortly.
In the first construction phase, damage became apparent during examinations of the sewer and wastewater shafts further along Schillerstrasse (towards Markt and Goethestrasse). Since the investigations could only be carried out after the junction was closed, additional action is now required. This is, among other things, so that we do not have to carry out complex construction work again in the coming years. Telekom also has to repair damage on Schillerstrasse. Therefore, the area of the current construction site will be expanded.
Specifically, this means: From next Tuesday, October 10, 2023, a complete closure of Schillerstrasse behind the junction to Bahnhofstrasse will be necessary for a few days. Since the Schiller/Goethestrasse intersection is not accessible these days, traffic to Kaufland is routed via Bahnhofstrasse and Konstantinstrasse. The town hall and the savings bank can be reached by car via Bahnhofstrasse, Saarstrasse and Brückenstrasse. The diversions will be signposted.
The “Goethestraße” intersection area in the direction of Kaufland is expected to be reopened on October 19th. Traffic then runs over the milled roadway. Only the entrance to “Am Markt” street remains closed. More extensive work is taking place in the area of the zebra crossing, so that the shortcut around the town hall, which is often used by drivers, is no longer possible. All diversion traffic must go via Bahnhofstrasse. The town hall and savings bank can still be reached via Brückenstraße.
Thanks to this construction schedule and traffic plan as well as the deployment of additional construction crews, the entire project can probably be completed on time as far as possible despite the unforeseen damage along Schillerstrasse. All work should be completed and asphalting should take place in the first half of November. For this last step, a full closure will be necessary again. The entire area, including the Granastrasse/Schillerstrasse junction, can then be opened to traffic again.
