Konz: Will Roscheid get a second road connection?
The Roscheid residential area with around 3,000 residents can only be legally reached via one road. If this connection is blocked, for example due to an accident or damage, residents only have smaller roads to get to their houses. That's why the city of Konz's goal is to create a second connection for the residential area. This would relieve pressure on the current access road and thus reduce traffic and noise pollution for residents.
Where exactly the second connection could run has not yet been finally clarified. The city of Konz has had several variants examined by experts. In a first step, it was calculated how many vehicles would use these possible routes, i.e. how much relief they would bring. The next step was about spatial compatibility. For example, it was examined whether the possible routes would run through landscape or species protection areas and how difficult and expensive the road route would be to construct.
The result of this test was recently presented to the political committees of the city of Konz. There are therefore two options that should be pursued. The variant, which runs from the end of the Seifwaldring towards the Moselle and then meets the K134 behind the cemetery in Konz-Karthaus, makes it to second place on the priority list, which the planners consider sensible and feasible. In first place is a route that runs from the roundabout at Seifwaldring towards the B268. Vehicles that use this possible connection would drive via Trier at the end of the route.
The building committee of the city of Konz has now decided that the documents for a spatial planning procedure should first be prepared for this preferred variant. Such an official procedure is a legal requirement for further concrete planning of a second connection for the Roscheid residential area. During the spatial planning process, public bodies, such as authorities and associations, are asked to provide a statement.
