Konz City Library draws record balance for 2022

Conc, 01/16/2023

The city library of Konz can once again draw a positive balance for the past year. With more than 143,000 loans, the highest result in the library's history was achieved. The number of visits was also higher than ever at more than 50,700. In addition, the reading summer also set a new record with 520 participating children and around 4,400 loans.

"I am pleased that the offer of the Konz City Library is so well received by the people," says Mayor Joachim Weber. “This shows that there are still many enthusiastic young and adult readers in our community. But I also believe that this success is related to the wide range of offers that the committed and creative team of our city library is always creating anew.”

The extremely up-to-date media inventory, the redesign of events for schools and day-care centers with modern technology, and the purchase of robotics (BlueBots) for learning programming in a playful way promotes the attractiveness of the library and not only attracts bookworms. The ever-growing digital offering, such as Onleihe, Duden learning opportunities for schoolchildren, eKids for learning to read, tigerbooks for digital reading for children, and Overdrive/Libby for mostly English books and audio books are inspiring more and more people. Since December 2022, the city library has also been offering a streaming service for films (Filmfriend).

Due to the increase in the quality of stay, the rooms are also increasingly being used by students from secondary schools: they do their homework there, study together or simply spend their time together. The library is thus used as a social meeting point.

With the introduction of RFID technology, the city library took another important step into the future in 2022. Media can now be borrowed and returned in stacks, which speeds up the process for readers and shortens waiting times.

Event highlights in 2022 were the children's theater "The Little Witch" and "Sittmann sings and reads Mey".
