Konz-Oberemmel: water body renaturation and redesign begins
June 14, 2023
It can start: After a long planning phase, the renaturation and redesign around the Fallweiher pond is now beginning in Konz-Oberemmel. First, work will be carried out in the forest for the renaturation of the creek, later the construction work will start directly on the pond.
Mayor Joachim Weber, mayor Hermann-Josef Benzkirch, as well as representatives of the construction company Wacht, the engineering office Paulus & Partner and the municipal administration all came together last month for the first ground-breaking ceremony. Now that all the necessary materials have been delivered, the active construction phase begins.

The plan is for the Langwiesenbach to flow partly into the pond and partly south of the pond. It is then routed through a new, near-natural stream bed, which increases the ecological quality of the body of water and the diversity of species. In order to create space for this, the fall pond will be reduced. In addition, the embankments are to be designed in such a way that it is possible to walk along the banks of the pond. New jetties and benches help to make the water tangible.
The redesign and renaturation measures were prepared at the beginning of last year. However, due to the immense cost increases in 2022, the financing first had to be secured again. In the spring of this year, the explosive ordnance clearance service was able to carry out its investigations and give the go-ahead for the start of measures.
