Conc, April 19, 2023
The Tennenplatz in Wiltingen is getting a facelift. In the future, football will be played there on green artificial turf instead of on a red-brown surface. At a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony, the municipality of Konz, the district of Trier-Saarburg, the local community of Wiltingen, as well as representatives of the construction company Köhler Strassenbau and the engineering office Deges & Bah celebrated the start of the conversion work.

By the end of June, not only the underground of the sports field will be redesigned. There will also be new, energy-saving floodlights, new goals, a 100-meter track and a long jump facility.
VG Mayor Joachim Weber is pleased that the project can finally be implemented. Because the financing for the redesign of the square had been a challenge for a long time. The conversion was on the “waiting list” for 15 years. The required funding was then approved at the end of last year.
Joachim Weber therefore thanked District Administrator Stefan Metzdorf for the financial support through the decision of the district council: "Without the subsidy from the district of Trier-Saarburg, the conversion would not have been possible."

The cost of the new sports field is more than 900,000 euros. The district supports the measure with almost 272,000 euros, the state with 146,000 euros. The local community is also involved with 91,000 euros, the own contribution of the Konz community is around 400,000 euros.
"The modernized square will make sport even more attractive for local youth and, above all, the square can be used by many more people," said Mayor Weber. And District Administrator Metzdorf added: "The artificial turf field is also an enrichment for school sports thanks to the construction of the running track."
