Konz-Oberemmel: The Fallweiher area is being redesigned - renaturation measures for the creek are scheduled to start this year
Conc, August 10, 2022
The area around the fall pond in Konz-Oberemmel is being redesigned. Some preparations have already been made. At the beginning of the year, during the clearing period, trees that were on the slopes of the fall pond were felled. The actual remodeling will begin in the coming months.
The plan is for the Langwiesenbach to flow partly into the pond and partly south of the pond. It is then guided through a new, near-natural stream bed. In order to create space for this, the fall pond will be reduced. In addition, the embankments are to be designed in such a way that it is possible to walk and linger on the banks of the pond. New footbridges and benches will increase the quality of stay.
For once, the heat and drought of the past few weeks had a positive effect on this construction project: the streams that feed the fall pond have dried up and so has the pond. This makes the planned conversions much easier, because the water no longer has to be pumped out or drained.
In order to prevent the pond from filling up again, the opportunity was now used: the structure that dams the water was removed in consultation with the SGD Trier-Nord as the responsible water authority. So nothing stands in the way of the conversion and renaturation. The public tendering process is currently underway to find a company to implement the project. If all goes according to plan, construction is expected to start later this year.
