Konz: Construction work in Maierspark completed - relaxation time for nature has begun
Konz, July 08, 2022
The construction work in Maierspark was completed this week. The main path through the newly designed site was asphalted, the remaining railings could be delivered and installed. Only the lamps are missing. This means that the citizens of Konz will soon be able to enter the park again.
For now, however, the park is not yet open to the public. This should give nature time to recover. The planting has already taken place in parts; the green should now develop for a few weeks without external influences. After the summer holidays, the park will be open to visitors. More trees will be planted in the fall.

The Maierspark got a new look as a result of the construction work. Renatured bodies of water not only ensure more naturalness, but also a different distribution of the living areas. Because the new water crossing created three "islands" that are connected by bridges and footbridges.
Water features and stepping stones were built so that children can play better in the water. Other innovations include a barbecue area, relaxation loungers and a multifunctional area with a ball net to enable various sports.
The completion of the conversion work was delayed due to the bad weather in winter, the corona pandemic and, most recently, due to ongoing delivery problems. The city now wants to open the park to the public as soon as nature allows.
The redesign of the Maierspark is funded by the federal and state program "Lebendige Zentrum" (formerly "Active City Centers") and the "Blau Plus" campaign of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate.
