As part of the series of events "United in diversity - discovering and understanding Europe", the partnership for democracy in the VG Konz, in cooperation with the "Lifelong Learning" action group, organized an educational trip to the European Commission in Brussels last Tuesday, September 13, 2022.
In the impressive premises of the Berlaymont building, the participants received an exciting and highly interesting lecture by Dr. Kraff, the director of the Internal Audit Service, an insight into the working methods and the tasks of the EU Commission.
In addition, the presentation also went into the origins of the European Union as a peace project and made it clear that future tasks and challenges can only be solved together. In the discussion that followed, the citizens of Konz were also able to ask questions and deepen their knowledge of the political institutions at European level.
After a lunch break in the picturesque city center of Brussels, the participants in the three-hour city tour "Brussels Kaleidoscope" also learned exciting details about the history of the metropolis and its development into the European capital. First we walked through the old town over the Grand Place, past the Brussels Stock Exchange to the cathedral. During the subsequent tour by bus, the Palace of Justice, the European Quarter and the Atomium were also visited.
On Thursday 6 October, the Partnership for Democracy in Konz is also offering an educational trip to Strasbourg to visit the European Union's only directly elected body, the European Parliament. On site, participants will receive a guided tour and learn about the powers of the legislature and the importance of Parliament in the legislative process at EU level. The plenary hall is also visited as the heart of European democracy. In this exciting atmosphere of the largest transnational parliament in the world, visitors can follow the course of plenary sessions and exciting debates live.
The series of events is organized by the coordination and specialist office of the Partnership for Democracy in the VG Konz and funded by the Federal Ministry for Families, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth as part of the federal program "Live Democracy!"
