Konz: Sustainable heat and electricity from the sewage treatment plant - work was completed earlier than planned
Konz, May 6, 2022
In the future, the Konz town hall and the administration building can be supplied with sustainable heat and electricity from the sewage treatment plant at the mouth of the Saar. There, energy is generated by sewage gas. The preparatory work for the project is now complete.
In the past few weeks, a 200 meter long hole has been drilled through the ground under the Saar. Then a pipe of the same length, a so-called culvert, with a diameter of about 50 centimeters was assembled in the bridge road and laid out along the entire length of the road. The pipe was then pulled through the borehole to the other side of the Saar. Important: The pull-through had to be done in one go.
Photo: Mayor Joachim Weber and the first councilor of the VG, Guido Wacht, were on site in the Brückenstraße when the culvert was transported towards the borehole on Thursday afternoon.
Mission successful - it was said on Thursday evening. This enabled the work to be completed faster than planned. The corresponding cables will be laid through the pipe on Friday. The climate-friendly power and heat supply for the administration building will begin in a few months.
Mayor Joachim Weber is pleased: "The administration and the associated municipal utilities have not only become a lot more environmentally friendly in terms of energy supply, but also more independent."
