EuRegio SaarLorLux+: General assembly elects new president - Mayor Joachim Weber resigns as chairman after three years
"EuRegio SaarLorLux+" is a platform to which forty municipalities, inter-municipal structures, districts and provinces belong. It is an association for cross-border cooperation and the exchange of experiences. Among other things, EuRegio also organizes language courses, football tournaments, coordinates a network of elementary schools and cross-border youth work.
Since December 2018, the mayor of the city and associated municipality of Konz, Joachim Weber, has held the presidency. Jean-Paul Dondelinger from the Commune de Pétange in Athus, Belgium, is now taking on this task.

At the General Assembly, Joachim Weber looked back on the past three years: "From the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020 to the present day, the work of the EuRegio was initially impaired by closed borders - later by severely restricted exchange. Nevertheless, we have adapted to continue to keep EuRegio alive in a different but active way. The pandemic made us realize that we live in a space without borders every day, not only for our work, but also for our cultural excursions, our free time and our health.”
The presidency of the EuRegio SaarLorLux+ usually changes every two years. Due to the corona pandemic, Mayor Joachim Weber was President of the EuRegio for three years.
