Redesign of the Maierspark in Konz begins

The Maierspark in Konz should be bigger and more beautiful. Next Monday 18 October 2021 , start the preparatory work for the redesign measures. Therefore, the park will be closed to visitors and through traffic from this point on.

Among other things, it is planned to renaturate the Konzer Bach and the Berendsgraben. The two bodies of water meet in the park and then flow together into the Saar. The water crossing is moved further into the center of the park, creating three "islands" that are connected by bridges and walkways.

Water features and stepping stones are set up so that children can play better in the water. There will also be play equipment for small children.

The Maierspark should serve as a meeting place for "everyone". Therefore, a barbecue area is planned, as well as a multifunctional area with a ball net to enable sports such as volleyball.

The aim of the city is to preserve the character of the park as a natural place of recreation and to optimize it at the same time. For example, a flower meadow is planted; Benches and loungers should invite you to linger. An improved infrastructure is being set up for events and festivals - in the form of supply stations for electricity and water.

The measures should cost a total of around 680,000 euros. The largest part is funded by the federal and state program "Living Centers" (formerly "Active City Centers") and the "Blau Plus" campaign of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. The new park is expected to be ready in the course of 2022.
