Swimming courses in the Saar-Mosel-Bad in Konz
Information on times, waiting list and seahorse exam
"Parents have repeatedly asked us in recent months when the swimming courses in the Saar-Mosel-Bad will finally start again," says Guido Wacht, the first full-time deputy of the Konz association. "Now the time has come," he adds. “And we also increased the frequency a bit. Learning is faster because a course is now compressed over two weeks every working day.”
Nevertheless, unfortunately not everyone can immediately get a place in one of the courses. "During lockdown, when the pool had to remain closed, a lot built up and now we're trying to work off the waiting list as quickly as possible," says pool manager Jens Becker. "We have now taught the children to swim, whose course had to be canceled due to Corona, and there is already a next course."
However, those who register now will probably not be able to get a place in the next few months. Because in addition to the Corona backlog, the demand is huge. And unfortunately there can't be any more courses. “We tried to offer two courses a day instead of just one – at different times. But the offer in the early afternoon was hardly accepted because the children are often still busy with school or other things,” explains Becker. Now the courses always take place from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. After that, the pool capacity is already fully utilized because, for example, clubs such as the DLRG or the TG Konz also offer a youth program or rehabilitation sports.
“Swimming is important – we all know that,” emphasizes Becker. That's why he gives a few tips to shorten the waiting time: "Basically, it helps to be flexible in terms of time. Sometimes someone drops out, then we contact the people on the waiting list in the order in which they signed up. Anyone who can step in spontaneously gets the free place.”
To be put on the waiting list, simply fill out the contact form on the website. It is important to provide the phone number. In this way, Jens Becker and his colleagues can reach interested parties even faster and better.
Also important to know: The courses in the Konzer Saar-Mosel-Bad are aimed at children who are around six years old. "Experience has shown that only then is there sufficient coordination to learn to swim properly," explains the pool manager.
And if you don't want to wait and want your child to learn to swim even faster, mom or dad can also become a swimming instructor themselves. The teaching pool in the Saar-Mosel-Bad is very well suited for this, because the water depth ranges from zero to 1.35 meters - perfect for taking away the children's fear and slowly getting them used to more depth. The pool staff will be happy to give you tips on how to learn to swim easier.
Of course, the seahorse test is also possible after such a "parents' course". All that matters is that the child can jump in the water, swim a 25-meter lane, and retrieve an object from shoulder-deep water. Pool manager Becker says: "If your son or daughter has learned that, just talk to us. Then the child can take the exam and get a badge to proudly show to friends and family.”
