"Music enjoyment at the highest level"
This summer, too, the Konz Music Festival is following its motto
After the 2020 festival edition, which was very successful despite the pandemic with over 1000 visitors, there will be a total of twelve events from August 20th to 29th. The festival team led by Joseph Moog (Artistic Director), Johannes Tittel (City of Konz Cultural Officer) and Winfried Manns (Chairman) have succeeded in designing an attractive concept with world-class artists that meets the current requirements of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate in the wake of Covid-19 100 percent fair.
Particular attention is paid this year to the 'Master Academy' for violin, viola, cello, piano and percussion, which is based on the tradition of the 'Concert Summer Concerts' and is integrated into the festival, where selected young international talents in chamber music receive important suggestions from well-known teachers and arrange their own concerts. The Konz Music Festival 2021 begins in the "Tent of God among the people", the architecturally and acoustically outstanding church of St. Nikolaus in Konz. On Friday, August 20 at 7:30 p.m., the renowned cellist Alexander Hülshoff is expected, who also plays the prestigious Institution Villa Musica and opens the festival together with the artistic director Joseph Moog on the piano with works by Chopin and Saint-Saens.
The next day at the same time, Moog, together with piano duo partner Kai Adomeit, musically portrayed the beauty of the river landscape on two Steinway grand pianos on the open-air stage at the picturesque confluence of the Saar and Moselle in Konz.
On Sunday, August 22nd at 11:00 a.m., the Ensemble Présence will be making a guest appearance at the Galeria Contemporanea in Oberbillig, and from 5:00 p.m. you can follow the sounds of jazz and the aromas of the excellent range of wines with the performance of "Pianoreed" at the Cantzheim winery.
It continues on Wednesday, August 25th. at 5:00 p.m. in the arcades of the St. Bruno monastery in Konz with the world-famous “Carnival of the Animals” by Camille Saint-Saens, whose death this year marks the hundredth anniversary. Benjamin Schäfer from the Orchester Philharmonique du Luxembourg conducts the young members of the festival's new "Master Academy" and moderates the youth concert. In the evening at 7:30 p.m., Joseph Moog invites the woodwind soloists of the State Philharmonic Rhineland-Palatinate in the formation 'Moog & Friends' to a real home game with works by Mozart and Thuille in the Church of St. Peter in Wincheringen.
The Waldbühne in Konz will be on Thursday, August 26th. at 7:30 p.m. to the scene of the action and offers a very special listening experience between baroque and tango with 'The Twiolins'. At the same time, the musicians of the 'Master Academy' will be making guest appearances in a variety of formations in the Church of St. Helena in Losheim am See, Saarland.
The second festival weekend begins with the concert "Spotlight Young Musicians", the final concert of the 'Master Academy' on Friday, August 27th. at 7:30 p.m. in the Church of St. Nikolaus in Konz. Here the students and their teachers will present a musical world tour that amazingly combines exquisite string sounds with piano and drums.
The crowning glory are two top-class open-air concerts: On Saturday, 28.08. rich big band sounds are expected at the performance of the Luxembourg Jazz Orchestra at 7:30 p.m. at the Van Volxem winery in Wiltingen, while on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. the German State Philharmonic Orchestra Rhineland-Palatinate with its British chief conductor Michael Francis will perform symphonic works by Mozart, Mendelssohn and Honegger performs. Both events also feature a "Flying Buffet" by top chef Jörg Linden and a selection of exquisite wines.
The festival ends at the same time as the traditional guest performance by pianist William Cuthbertson at Haus Beda in Bitburg. Johannes Tittel and Winfried Manns emphasize that all music lovers from the neighboring countries of Luxembourg, France and Belgium are cordially invited to visit the events of the Konz Music Festival.
