Ground-mounted photovoltaics
The municipality of Konz would like to do its part to replace fossil energy sources with renewable ones. As a first step, planning for wind turbine locations was carried out in 2017 and is already being implemented.
In a second step, areas for open-air photovoltaic systems are now being proposed in a location concept. The concept is intended to resolve the competing demands on space and reserve appropriate area proposals, which can then be implemented in the medium term.
The legal implementation takes place via the land use plan and specific development plans for each project.
Criteria were drawn up for this purpose and around 700 hectares of suitable areas were identified. Small areas were then filtered out, an intensive on-site test was carried out regarding the landscape and topography, and 250 hectares of test areas remained. A formal voting process was carried out on these areas to collect comments from specialist authorities and citizens. The local mayors and communities were also heard.
This location concept was approved by the local council on February 6, 2024.
The resulting area now amounts to 120 hectares and is now binding for the administration.
